Grant in Memory of Rubena Carter Furlong

Camberwell District Ballet and The Russian Choreographic Academy are  excited to announce that a very generous Grant has been donated to further the training of a gifted student to study overseas.

This has been made by the family of Rubena Carter Furlong in memory of Rubena on the 10th anniversary of her passing. Rubena graduated from the Australian Ballet School and danced professionally with Ballet Victoria and a number of European ballet companies. She also created one of the leading roles in Garth Welch’s ballet Othello, which he first choreographed for the ABS in 1968.

Rubena was an outstanding ballet teacher with exceptional knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the classical ballet technique and had the ability to be able to deliver this knowledge to her students  with great care and love, obtaining excellent results.

We ourselves as Directors of Camberwell District Ballet and The Russian Choreographic Academy consider ourselves to be so very fortunate to have been able to work with Rubena, indeed a very beautiful and special person for all who gave so  much to the students.

Thank you so much to her family for providing such a generous grant of up $10,000 to enable a young and gifted dancer the exceptional opportunity to study with one of the world’s top schools for a period of time."
